Not a lot in the way of reliable history knowledge. Mike 'You're History, Man' Gove needs a word with David Cameron:

"We were the junior partner in 1940 when we were fighting the Nazis."

The senior partner apparently being the USA, which didn't enter the war until late 1941, rather than the USSR, which at least contrived to enter the war on our side and start fighting Nazis in mid 1941, albeit rather against their will.  Evidently Cameron's Notting Hill dinner parties don't involve all those hackneyed jokes about the US turning up late to things:

"This World Cup is working out like WW2 - France have forfeited, the USA turned up late, and England are left to fight the Germans!"

Just to recap on what Michael Gove thinks a decent chap needs to know about British history:

“There is no better way of building a modern, inclusive, patriotism than by teaching all British citizens to take pride in this country’s historic achievements,” he said. “Which is why the next Conservative Government will ensure the curriculum teaches the proper narrative of British History – so that every Briton can take pride in this nation

Perhaps he should start with the next Cabinet meeting?  Bare-bummed thrashings for any backsliders who can't name dates.  Discipline, Michael, discipline!  What would Toby Young do?
